Poem

The ewe rejects her lamb

& so anticipates

All philosophy

Nihilism

Little birds folded like loose blueberries

into clouds, pain management

*

Thought eddied like roadside rainwater and became three days on the couch

*

I lost my needle in the oceanographic

grass, three eyes seeking

*

Death: the beginning

of a long vegetable argument with the ground

*

The good tape holding

the bark on our tree together / after lightning

*

A fox took the neighbor’s cat & then was taken

by another fox

*

The mountain

listening with its two solemn ears for migratory birds

*

My friend the groundhog, your face

never visible as you run from death

*

The possums take a whole

bunch of grapes behind the woodpile. Insurance

*

Tagged animals who die leave the study, for

data integrity

*

The pond fish make their homes

among the skeletons of old Christmas trees

*

Cast into the pond knowingly, wrapped in chains, Veronica

pray for

Novena

The frog in Frogger

When he falls in the river

This will not kill him

🕯

When the fish is flushed

& then by the nightlight’s glow

Secretly replaced

🕯

The sun in the old movie

Is gray

Potted plants dying in winter

🕯

One cloud may hide another

Or hide from another

Or go seek

🕯

They’re banning the sale of nips at

Convenience stores

February moon

🕯

Rose water orange

Blossom water the fate of

Your kiss on this page

🕯

Gaspard de la nuit

Most people talk

Too fast for me to understand

🕯

Thank you for making

It nearly to the end with me

The deer, surprised—

🕯
